CAMBRIDGE
Cambridge! We’d been before — took my brother and his wife when they visited — so this time we thought, why not bring Mum too?
On our way into town, we popped into Fitzbillies (again!) for a quick breakfast treat — their famously sticky cinnamon Chelsea buns, of course, and a hot chocolate for Mum with marshmallows piled high. Sticky, sweet, and naughtily perfect… just the way we like it.

Wandering through those familiar streets, I still felt that same sense of wonder — as if stepping into a city built for geniuses.
We paused at the Mathematical Bridge, watching punts drift lazily along the River Cam, strolled past the majestic King’s College Chapel, watched cyclists whizz by, and listened to the chime of the college bells echoing through the cobbled lanes — it’s almost impossible not to fall under Cambridge’s spell all over again.

But the highlight? Spotting cows — yes, actual cows! — lounging along the riverbank like the original VIPs of Cambridge, munching on grass with all the swagger in the world. You have to see it to believe it.

We stopped at a cosy café for a proper Sunday roast (Mum’s favourite, and ours too — we’re always on the hunt for the best one in town).
Afterwards, tummies full, we wandered through the old bookshops and souvenir stores, picking up little keepsakes for Mum to remember her trip — a day that was every bit as lovely as we’d hoped.

Cambridge never disappoints — even when you’ve been before. Maybe it was Mum’s grin as she spotted those cows, or the sugar rush from Fitzbillies, but the day just worked — the best kind of family day out.
With love
Mel x
