SLAD VALLEY

Slad feels like the kind of place time tiptoed around — gently, as if it didn’t want to disturb the magic.

From the moment I arrived, I was smitten. Rolling meadows, whispering hedgerows, wildflowers swaying in the breeze — it’s the countryside at its dreamiest.  And yes, I actually spotted alpacas peeking out from behind a hedge (the kind of surprise that makes you laugh out loud).

This is Laurie Lee country — the landscape that inspired Cider with Rosie. Walking through Slad, I saw the world through his eyes: unhurried, poetic, quietly beautiful.

We “accidentally on purpose” found The Woolpack, tucked deep in the valley — cosy, characterful, and steeped in literary charm. Sitting there, surrounded by stories, I felt time slow right down.

Here, nothing rushes you. The valley asks you to pause, breathe, and notice. Cows doze beneath oak trees, horses graze lazily, bees hum over wild blooms. Everything feels alive — and wonderfully at peace.

Slad Valley isn’t just a place. It’s a feeling — a gentle reminder to slow down and fall in love with the quiet again.
